From Kansas to Multiple Locations Across Costa Rica: Debra Has a Decade of Experience Living All Over Costa Rica, and Now She's Here to Share

Debra Rogan traded Central Kansas farm country for Costa Rica’s spring-like Central Valley in 2015. She and her husband sold nearly everything they owned and arrived with eight suitcases and an open mind, drawn by the chance to learn how to live inside a new culture, and by a climate that stays gentle and spring-like most of the year.
They settled about 45 minutes from San José and began learning how to navigate everyday life in a new country, from temporary residency paperwork to banking, healthcare, transportation, and day-to-day routines.

Over the years they moved on purpose, living in several regions to experience as much of Costa Rica as they could. That gave Debra something most newcomers do not have yet. A real feel for how daily life, costs, and community shift from one part of the country to the next.
Debra is honest about the hard parts too. Some of her most important lessons came from learning how much security matters here, and how the right neighborhood and setup change everything about how it feels to live in Costa Rica. She is direct with newcomers about settling in safely, because she has lived it.

Ask her what she loves about life here and the answer comes easily. The Costa Rican people, the weather, and the flora and fauna all around her. After years of answering questions for strangers in expat Facebook groups, she joined Retire Abroad Hub to do it properly, one honest conversation at a time. Her goal on every call is simple.
